Feature

This distinctive appearance is due to the suspended roof structure. It is called the ‘ship’s gymnasium’ because it gives the impression of a Japanese-style ship. This structure provides large spaces without columns. By limiting the area where foundations are laid on soft ground, the cost of foundation works is reduced. Construction was stopped for four months after the foundations were laid, and design changes were made. The special structure made it difficult to refurbish the ceiling and the building was closed in 2014. It was then decided that they would be broken up.
