“Kakezukuri” : Traditional Japanese Construction Methods

Kakezukuri is a traditional Japanese method of building flat floors on hillsides in mountainous areas. The Kakezukuri of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple is relatively new among Kakezukuri. The pillars are firmly secured with stiles (Nuki). A small roof also protects the wood edge of the stipple.

This viewpoint shows that Kakezukuri was employed to create a flat floor on a slope.
